Washington Heights Camerata

The Association of Dominican Classical Artists presents “Composers from Centroamérica”. The concert will take place at the Aaron Davis Hall, Marian Anderson Theater on Thursday April 18th 2019, 7:00 PM.

The concert will count with the participation of Dominican guest conductor Darwin Aquino, featuring soloists Edmundo Ramirez, viola and Luis E. Casal, violin, performing pieces of Carlos Jose Castro from Costa Rica, Roque Cordero & Luis Enrique Casal from Panama and Esteban Servellon from el Salvador among others. World premiere by Guatemalan composer Sergio Reyes.

The concert features an unprecedented program where the music is exclusively written for orchestra by past and present composers from various parts of Central America. A World Premiere specially written for this concert “Migraciones” by Guatemalan composer Sergio Reyes, encourages a deeper reflection upon the causes and consequences of the Central American migration crisis. The piece evokes the migrants’ various emotions, such as abandonment, courage, and hope. The music is also homage to journalists and humanitarian organizations committed to assist and document the migrants’ odyssey, urging empathy and solidarity. This is very important in the current political climate where contributions by immigrants are so often overlooked.
